are a lot of quotes that really hit home. Here are a few of them that I
found towards the end of the book. ( I didn’t think about writing some
of them down until the last couple of chapters…LOL) Hopefully i will
be able to add some more…but here are some for now…
“Learning to Pray is learning to trust in the wisdom, the power, and
the love of our heavenly father, always so far beyond our dreams. He
knows our need and knows ways to meet it that have never entered our
heads. Things we feel sure we need for happiness may often lead to our
ruin. Things we think will ruin us, if we believe what the father tells
us and surrender ourselves into His strong arms, bring us deliverance
and joy.”(p.33)
Whenever I have resisted Him, I have cheated myself. Whenever I have yielded I have found joy.” (p.33)
“ The cause of our discontent: We simply do not Believe God. The
wilderness experience leads to the Promised Land. It is the path God
chose for us. His Word is established forever, and He tells us in a
thousand ways that His will is our peace, His choice will lead to
fulfillment and joy, the way of transgressors is hard. Do we suppose
tat we could find a better way than His?
One of George Eliot’s characters say:
You are seeking your own will my daughter. You are
seeking some good other than the law you are bound to obey. But how
will you find good? It is not a thing of choice; it is a river that
flows form the invisible throne, and flows by the path of obedience. I
say again, man cannot choose his duties. You may choose to forsake your
duties, and choose not o have the sorrow they bring. But you will go
forth, and what will you find, my daughter? Sorrow without duty- bitter
herbs, and no bread with them.” (p.51)
“Today is mine. Tomorrow is none of my business. If I peer
anxiously into the fog of the future, I will strain my spiritual eyes
so that I will not see clearly what is required of me now.” (p.53)
“ He is not all that we would ask for, but it is precisely when we do
not have what we would ask for, and only then, that is when we can
percieve His all-sufficiency. It is when the sea is moonless that the
Lord has become my light.” (p.57)
“All along, let us remember, we are not asked to understand, but simple to obey.” (p.57)
“ Grant, Oh Lord my God, that I may never fall away in success of in
failure; that I may not be prideful in prosperity nor dejected in
adversity. Let me rejoice only what unites us and sorrow only in what
separates us. May I strive to please no one or fear to displease anyone
except Yourself. My I seek always the things that eternal and never
those that are temporal. May I shun any joy that is without You and
never seek any that is besides You. O Lord, may I delight in any work I
do for You and tire of any rest that is apart from You. My God let me
direct my heart towards You, and in my failings always repent with a
purpose of amendment.” St. Thomas Aquinas (p.59)
“My Lord, My God Forgive my faithfulness” (p.63)
Tip: when reading ALWAYS carry a pen/paper. Just get into a habit of grabbing one or having it by where you read as soon as you start reading. It will bless you, I promise. aak
